Harry Richard Fochtman, 80, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully April 9, 2022, after fighting a courageous battle with Parkinson's.
Harry was born April 4, 1942 in Petoskey, Michigan, the son of Harry Henry Fochtman and Gertrude Hatch. He was the baby of the family, having two older brothers, Earl and Carl, and an older sister, Pearl. Some of Harry's fondest memories were of growing up on Lake Michigan. He especially loved ice skating and barrel jumping, with a record of jumping over 6 barrels! Harry developed a love of playing and watching sports at a young age, a love that he carried with him his whole life.
When Harry was just 13 years old his father was in a nursing home, and his mother passed away. His sweet sister Pearl, and her husband Lloyd, took him into their home in Bucyrus, Ohio, and raised Harry alongside their young family as one of their own. He held Pearl and her family in a special place in his heart his whole life for their love, sacrifice, and generosity.
Harry graduated from Bucyrus High where, not surprisingly, his life revolved around playing football, basketball, and running track. After graduation, in August of 1960, Harry enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in London, Paris, Norway, and Thailand. However, his favorite place to be stationed was at Hill Air Force Base in Roy, Utah where he met his best friend, and love of his life, Tammy Underwood. Harry and Tammy were married on June 12, 1968 and made their home in the Ogden area for the next 54 years. Upon marrying, Harry switched from active duty in the USAF to a reservist, retiring as a Master Sargent after 35 years of service to our country. Harry also worked as a civilian contractor at HAFB as a transportation specialist, retiring after 30 years.
Harry and Tammy were blessed with 5 children, 23 grandchildren, and 7.5 great-grandchildren. Family and faith were the foundations on which they based their successful marriage. Harry joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when he was 27 years old and he and Tammy were sealed on June 12, 1970 in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity, also having their son Jamie sealed to them. Harry was a quiet, yet faithful, member of the church, serving in numerous positions throughout his life. He exemplified Christ-like service for the last 10 years, being the sole caregiver of his treasured wife Tammy who suffers from Alzheimer's. He took care of her with patience, tenderness, and long-suffering. He was her world!
Later in Harry's life he enjoyed taking trips with his sweetheart as well as with his children and their families. He also enjoyed word searches, playing cards, listening to Golden Oldies, anything to do with aviation, collecting state quarters, watching Western's, and a good nap!
Harry is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, beloved In-Laws-Walter and Eileen Underwood, a nephew and a great-nephew.
Harry is survived by his wife Tammy (North Ogden), Sister-in-Law, Paula Love (Ed), his 5 children, Jaime (Heather), Troy (Kristina), Shawn (Kim), Julie Smith (Mike), Jill Ramage (Thomas), 23 grandchildren, 7.5 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews as well as great and great-great nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held in Harry's honor on Thursday, April 14th, from 6-8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary located at 845 E Washington Blvd., Ogden, Utah. Friends and family may also visit for one-hour preceding Harry's funeral (10-11 a.m.) on Friday, April 15th with funeral services beginning at 11 a.m. at the Orion Chapel, 480 W 2000 N, Harrisville, Utah. Following the service, Harry will be interred at the Ben Lomond Cemetery, located at 526 E 2850 N, North Ogden, Utah.
Harry's funeral service will also be live streamed. To watch, scroll to the bottom of Harry's obituary at www.myers-mortuary.com on Friday, April 15, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. If unable to watch at this time his service will be on the Myers website indefinitely.
Harry's family would like to thank the workers at Encompass Hospice, especially Tammy and Maryann, for their dedicated and loving care of Harry and Tammy during the last six months. We would also like to thank the staff and residents of The Lodge at North Ogden for their care, support and friendship towards Harry, especially during Covid when his family were not able to be with him.

Out thoughts and prayers are with the entire family. Uncle Harry was a wonderful man and he will be greatly missed. We have so many great memories of our time with him, especially as a young girl when he used to babysit all 4 of us. His time in the service took him many places, and he always brought gifts back for us. We were so blessed to have him in our lives!
