HARRY ALFRED "BUD" JOHNSON, JR.

COX FUNERAL HOME

BASTROP, LOUISIANA

Harry Alfred "Bud" Johnson, Jr. was born May 11, 1944 in Lake Charles, Louisiana, the third child and only son in a household of five children. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on July 19, 2025 at his residence in Bastrop, Louisiana. Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by his parents, Harry Alfred Johnson, Sr. and Mildred Franklin Johnson; his son, H.A. Johnson, III; three sisters and brothers-in-laws, Mary Catherine Kreeger and husband John Kreeger, Linda LeGrand and husband Don LeGrand, Sr., and Judy Johnson.

"Bud," as he was known affectionately by his family and friends was a decorated United States Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, at the age of 22. A surviving Prisoner of War (POW) and Tunnel Rat - he earned every one of his achievements, humbly. For his service he received a Bronze Star with Valor, two Purple Hearts, a Joint Service Commendation Medal, an Army Good Conduct Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, a Vietnam Service Medal with 3 stars, an RVN Gallantry Cross (individual) Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal and an RVN Wounded Medal - among other medals and accolades. He was notified by mail that he would also be receiving the Silver Star Medal, however the family is still awaiting its arrival. Bud was married to Pat "P.J." Johnson in 1969, raising two children (H.A. and Meghan) in Ojai, California. Bud was a talented, successful welder, known for his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family, whom he loved unconditionally.

Bud will forever be remembered as a great man, a devoted husband, dedicated father, mentor and fun loving grandpa. A country boy through and through - he found solace in nature, writing poetry, and marveling in the beauty of animals. Bud was kind, loyal, patient, humble and compassionate.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Pat Johnson of Bastrop, Louisiana; daughter, Meghan Clark and Reg Marquez of Ventura, California; five beloved grandchildren, Mia Juarez, Curran Clark, Merrick Marquez, Harper Clark, and Maeve Marquez; a sister, Charlotte Kelley and her husband John of Waskom, Texas; his best friend Bob "Boobie" Dent and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family of Mr. Johnson will receive friends for a time of visitation beginning at 4:00 PM Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop, Louisiana followed by memorial services with military funeral honors at 5:00 PM at the chapel of Cox Funeral Home, officiated by Deacon Marc Vereen.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial contribution may be sent to ASPCA (the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals).

Bud was a proud American and flew his country's flag with pride. If he could ask anything of you - it would be for you to thank a veteran for their service and continue to honor our nations flag.

I recently met Bud at a party for friends. He was so courteous to me as the party was out on the lawn in the late evening. I am in need of help walking. He assisted me to a chair and was attentive to my needs throughout the evening, then he escorted back inside. I will pray for him and thank God for sending him to help me. Pat and family, your Bud is a man of service. Always be proud of him.
