Harvis Joseph Weekly, 76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at Baton Rouge General Hospital, with his sister by his side. Harvis was a native of Abbeville, Louisiana and was a 1967 graduate of Abbeville High School. He then attended USL (now ULL), earning his B.A. degree. Harvis then relocated to New Orleans, attending graduate school at LSUNO (now UNO). He later attended John Jay Cosmetology College and moved to Paris, France to complete his studies. He returned to New Orleans to open his own salon and operated this until his health began to decline. Harvis remained extremely independent and became very involved as a congregant of Touro Synagogue. He was an avid reader, enjoyed collecting antiques, and always kept abreast of current events.

Harvis is survived by his best friend and caregiver Iantha Parker, whom he loved as family, siblings Kathleen Weekly Kilpatrick (Richard) of Amite, LA, Kip A. Weekly (Diane) of Houston, Texas, Kevin D. Weekly (Melissa) of Breaux Bridge, LA, a niece, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and several aunts and cousins. He was predeceased by his best friend, Mindel (beloved cat), parents Minos J. Weekly and Margie Abshire Weekly, grandparents Melinda Trahan Weekly, Alexander Abshire, Alvin Weekly, Sr., Azelie Mathews Weekly, and step-grandfather Alfred Weekly. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Baton Rouge General Hospital for their compassionate care and support.

A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, February 6, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Hebrew Rest Cemetery #3, 2101 Pelopidas Street, New Orleans, LA 70122. Arrangements entrusted to Tharp Funeral Home. Expressions of love and sympathy may be placed and viewed at www.tharpcares.com.
