Hazel Johnson “Tootsie” Parker, 82, of Eure, NC, died Saturday, March 15, 2025, in her home where she was being cared for by family.
Mrs. Parker was born in Franklin, VA on May 9, 1942, and was the daughter of the late Lloyd James and Daisy Bell Blythe Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Crawford, and by brothers, James “Boo” and Ronnie Johnson.
A homemaker, she was a member of Eure Christian Church where she served in the Women’s Fellowship, church choir, and as president of the Adult Sunday School.
Surviving is her husband of 64 years, George Alfred Parker; her daughter, April Jernigan (Tony) of Gates; two sons, Greg Parker (Cindi) of Winterville and Al Parker of Eure; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 22, at 3:00 p.m. in Eure Christian Church and will be conducted by her pastor, the Rev. Wade Bennett, and former pastor, the Rev. Michael Brinkley. A private burial will follow in the church cemetery. Friends are invited to visit the family on Friday, March 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Miller & Van Essendelft Funeral Home, 304 Main Street, Gatesville, and again in the social hall of the church immediately following the service on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made either to Eure Christian Church, 872 NC 137, Eure, NC 27935, or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
