Hazel Williams was born August 23, 1919 to Felix and Anita Williams in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. She went home to be with the Lord on October 1, 2024.
She was the beloved sister of Eugene Williams, the late Alonzo Gonzalez and John Delgado (Lucille), and the mother of the late Peter Williams.
Hazel was educated in the public school system in Jamaica for elementary school and took her Cambridge Exams there as well. During her time in Jamaica, she worked in a restaurant on the island as a cashier. She enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and cousins. While residing in Jamaica, Hazel gave birth to a son, Peter.
Hazel came to the United States with Peter in 1948. She arrived in Philadelphia (where she saw snow for the first time), and moved to New York City, where she rented a room on Manhattan Avenue and lived for many years. She took classes at the YWCA for bookkeeping and typing, and used her new found skills working as a bookkeeper for Leumi Bank in New York City. Hazel also worked on a cruise ship during her time in New York City. She would write postcards and letters to family describing her adventures, and bring back gifts from the cities she visited. She absolutely loved traveling and seeing the world.
She moved to Englewood NJ in 1970, where she resided for the remainder of her life with her brothers and Mother. She was such a classy and stylish woman. While living in Englewood, Hazel enjoyed gardening, especially her flowers (Chrysanthemum was her favorite), and helping her brother Alonzo with the vegetable garden. She loved to spend time with family and friends, and attended St. Cecilia Church faithfully. She was loved by so many, and had wonderful neighbors who cared for her dearly.
Hazel's death is preceded by her mother and father, her brothers Alonzo and John (Lucille) and son Peter. She is survived by her brother Eugene, and her cousins in Philadelphia (Monteiro family).
