Helen Ann (Serafin) Skrzypczak, 93, of Erie, Pennsylvania, entered into the gates of Heaven on the
morning of February 10th, 2024, in Spencer, Indiana. She was a devoted and passionate wife, mother,
Busia, and follower of Christ.
Helen is survived by her sons and spouses/partners; Dan (Charlene Reeger), Bryan (Sandi Skrzypczak),
David (Vickie Maxey), and Joseph; ten grandchildren and spouses/partners, Christie (Skrzypczak) Seaton
(David), Jennifer Skrzypczak (Andrew Barden), James Skrzypczak (Michelle Biel), Deidra (Skrzypczak)
McLaughlin (Joseph), Scott Skrzypczak (Ashley DiCarlo), Wednesday Rome, Maximilian Rome, Abigail
Skrzypczak (Halie Hargraves), Casey Skrzypczak, Jared Skrzypczak; eight great-grandchildren and
beloved nieces and nephews in Serafin, Krahe, and Jaskolski families.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Michael Skrzypczak, her parents, Andrew and Sofia, her siblings, Stanley, Chester,
Alfreda (Waclawski), Henry, John (survived by Mary Beth), Edward, and Julian (survived by Janice), and eldest son, Michael (Skrzypczak) Saunders.
Helen was born on April 12, 1930 and raised on the family farm, becoming fluent in Polish, and
graduated from Brocton High School (Brocton, NY). After graduation, Helen relocated to Erie, PA to
work at Erie Resistor as an assembler, where she met and fell in-love with her husband, Michael. They
were married on May 15, 1954 at St. Hedwig Roman Catholic Church in Dunkirk, NY. Helen transitioned
into a life of becoming a housewife and mother to 5 wonderful boys that kept her hands full. Helen also
worked as a cosmetician at Carlisle's before opening her own store, "The Cosmetic Shoppe," in Erie,
PA.Michael and Helen relocated to Creve Coeur, MO, where Helen opened her second cosmetic store.
Upon retirement, they returned to Erie, PA and also had a residence in North Ft Myers, FL, before
spending their final years in Indiana.
Helen had a servant's heart and lived a simple life with her husband, loved family events, and traveled
across the country at a moment's notice. At Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, where Helen was a
devoted congregant, she made her famous pierogies as a small business to those in the community and
was active in her volunteering as she sang in the choir and helped with the annual Zabawa festival. Helen
will be remembered for her witty sense of humor and unconditional love of her family.
Visitation will be on Monday, February 19th, 2024, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Russell C. Schmidt and
Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd, Erie, PA. and on Tuesday February 20th, 2024 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2220 Reed St, Erie, PA, from 10 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial will be private in Mary Queen of Peace cemetery.
