A long and wonderful life devoted to children, family and faith came to a peaceful end with the passing of Helen Philomena Weber, 94, on November 21, 2022 in Dallas, Texas.
Born on January 21, 1928 to George and Philomena Duffy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Helen was the second of six children raised in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Shortly after graduating from Holy Spirit High School in 1946, she met Frank Weber Jr., a dashing young World War II veteran and resident of nearby Absecon, New Jersey. The two were married on October 22, 1949, and over the ensuing decades their union would produce seven children, 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Most women might be satisfied with such impressive numbers, but Helen was insistent on sharing her gift beyond the confines of her own family. As her children grew to adulthood and left their tiny Absecon nest, Helen showed an unexpected entrepreneurial flair by establishing a successful babysitting service out of her home. On any given weekday, a visitor to the tiny Weber residence on Pitney Road could find up to 15 happy infants and toddlers at her feet, many of whom would return to thank her as adults with children of their own.
As the years passed, Helen and Frank were able to fulfill their lifetime dream of traveling the world, enjoying visits to Ireland, Scotland, England and Germany. In 2011, Helen relocated from her longtime Absecon home to Dallas, Texas, joining those of her children who had preceded her in her southward migration. Other children and grandchildren would soon follow her to Texas, adding great joy and comfort to her final years.
Among Helen's guilty pleasures were a pronounced weakness for the offerings of QVC, a prodigious collection of signature red wigs, a strong penchant for ornate gold jewelry, and an insatiable sweet tooth rivaling that of Buddy The Elf.
Throughout her ninety-four years, Helen maintained a strong and unwavering devotion to her Catholic faith and took great comfort in her deep connection to her church and her God.
Helen is preceded in death by her husband Frank Jr. and her son Paul. She is survived by daughter Linda and her husband, Tom O'Donnell; daughter Barbara and her husband, Ethan Aronoff; son Frank Weber III and his wife, Barbara; her son Paul's widow, Ann Rushing; son Philip Weber and his wife, Terry; son Jim Weber and his wife, Adele; and daughter Marjorie and her husband, Paul Eastlack. She is also survived by her brothers Robert Duffy, Edward Duffy and Michael Duffy.
A memorial mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 7000 Morning Star Dr.,The Colony Texas 75056, on Friday, December 2, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with a private reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton House Of Charity www.setonabsecon.org/about-us/parish-giving/house-of-charity/
