Henry Thomas Ubik, aged 77, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024, in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on September 16, 1947, in Detroit, Michigan, Henry was a man whose presence was felt deeply by all who knew him-a loving husband, a devoted father, and a spirited innovator.
Henry married the love of his life, Sally Tuma, and together they built a family, cherishing their time with their daughter, Emily and son-in-law, David Bafumo. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, James and Vicki Tuma, niece, Alison (James) McRae and nephew, Andrew (Amanda) Tuma, as well as two great-nieces and many cousins. Henry was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Ubik, his parents, Thomas and Helen Ubik, and his godson, David Hollman.
Professionally, Henry was a luminary in the field of wireless technology and communication networking, providing solutions for automotive and marine industries. He studied at the Detroit Institute of Technology, Henry Ford Community College, the University of Warsaw, and graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in economics and mathematics. His exceptional skills and inventive mind led to many patents over his 53-year career at Ford Motor Company.
Henry's zest for life was equally evident in his personal passions. An avid sailor, he found solace and joy on the water. His collection of sailboats was more than a hobby; he bought a boat before his first car. Henry's enthusiasm for sailing was showcased in his active participation in the Bayview Port Huron to Mackinac Island race. Henry cherished the island's tranquility during the winter months, relishing in the quiet sledding adventures with Emily. This annual winter excursion was a beloved Christmas tradition.
Henry Thomas Ubik will be deeply missed; as we reflect on his life, we are reminded of the beauty in chasing our passions, the importance of family, and the enduring power of hard work and determination.
A memorial visitation for Henry will take place on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 from 10:00am-12:00pm at Chas. Verheyden, Inc., 16300 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Park. The memorial service will start at 12:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Bayview Yacht Club Junior Sailors Inc.

I'm so very sorry to learn of Henry's passing. We worked together at Ford and was always so impressed with the knowledge he had. He was always quick to assist and did so with enthusiasm. His incredible knowledge was second only to his fantastic sense of humor and love for his family. He adored Sally and Emily and was so very proud of them. He will be missed. To Sally, Emily, and all of Henry's family, you have my deepest condolences.

So very sad to hear of Henry´s passing. I worked closely with him on many I.T. related projects during my time at Ford. An incredible wealth and knowledge and experience and one heck of a nice guy. Henry was an amazing man who well be fondly remembered by all who had the opportunity to work with him. You made his mark, Henry. Rest well.

Sally and Emily, Phil and I are so sorry to hear of your loss. Henry was a great man; Phil always spoke so highly of him and always enjoyed working with him and spending time at lunch when they could. Many years ago (32) Phil had a heart attack and was in the hospital in February; we had a lot of snow that winter. Henry called me and came over and cleared our driveway for me. I'll never forget his kindness as I was trying to cope with everything; we had 2 children at the time 5 and 3. Such a kind and honorable man! When the guys last had lunch, a few years ago he brought over some of your homemade horseradish which was such a treat. You, Emily and your family are all in our thoughts at this difficult time. May you be comforted by all your memories and know that one day you will be reunited.

Sally,
How sad, I am so sorry to hear about Henry! What a loss for you.
Memories...bring a big smile. Sailing, yes, of course, lots of it! And neighbors! I always fondly remember Christmas morning (or was it eve?) pre children. Henry would grate his home grown horseradish, get Polish sausages, you'd make an amazing dessert and the four of us would have a lovely time. It seemed like we did it for years but it was probably only a couple.
Sending you and Emily lots of love,
Kim Harty
