Pollio, Howard R. – age 85, of Knoxville and Pompano Beach, FL, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022. Howard was born in New York on July 5, 1937 to Ellen and Dominic Pollio. He graduated from Brooklyn College with a Bachelors degree and Masters degree. He earned his PhD in Psychology from the University of Michigan. Howard and Marilyn moved to Knoxville in 1962 where Howard began his academic career at the University of Tennessee. He was a much loved professor for more than half a century, earning numerous university and national awards for his teaching and research. Howard authored many books and professional publications. He was also a passionate advocate in the community. Howard is survived by his best friend, traveling companion, editor and most of all, wife of 63 years, Marilyn. They raised three children, David (Whitney), Michele (Ken Barbee), and Jonathan (Sarah Sernaker). He was a devoted grandfather to Spencer, Adam (Alicia Mayle), Shira, Ari, Elyssa, Harper Pollio-Barbee. Special thanks to caregivers Renae, both Crystals, Ciranie and several others who provided exceptional care. Howard will most likely be remembered for his sharp wit and caring heart. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to UT Hospice, Parkinson's Association, the University of Tennessee, or the charity of your choice. Howard's funeral will be on Friday at 11:00 am at Rose Funeral & Cremation – Mann. Family and friends will then travel in procession to New Jewish Cemetery for the interment.
