Huie Thomas Profitt, a cherished member of his community and a devoted family man, passed away peacefully on October12, 2024 at the age of 94, at Belmont Health and Rehab in Columbus, Indiana. Surrounded by his loving family, he departed this world leaving behind a legacy steeped in humility, service, and unconditional love.
Born on June 25, 1930, in Estill County, Kentucky, Huie embraced the virtues of hard work and dedication from a young age. He found his calling as a carpenter, a career that spanned his entire life. Whether it was industrial building, remodeling homes, or woodcraft projects, every creation reflected Huie's passion for workmanship, a true testament to his generous spirit. In the years following his retirement, he took pride in serving as the facilities manager at The Calvary Church, a place that had been his spiritual home since being a charter member. His commitment to the church extended beyond mere attendance; he served diligently as a past board member and trustee, embodying his belief in the power of community.
Huie's faith was the cornerstone of his existence. Each day began with prayer and the comforting words of Psalms 91, a ritual that enveloped him in serenity. He found joy in serving on medical mission trips, contributing to the construction of a clinic in rural Honduras, where his tireless efforts helped many. It was clear that his love for God was rivaled only by the love he held for his family.
A man of humble demeanor, Huie's life revolved around others. He never sought praise or accolades for his good deeds; instead, he worked quietly behind the scenes, ensuring that those he loved were cared for and supported. He was a wonderful provider, and above all, nothing compared to the profound love he had for his Lord and family.
Huie is survived by his daughter, Sharon Faye (Profitt) Mullen and her husband Kevin of Columbus, Indiana; his son Nathan Profitt and his wife Elizabeth of Gallia County, Ohio; daughter in law, Nancy Profitt (Gary, son, deceased) of Cincinnati. His heart expanded to welcome his step-sons Michael Zink and his wife Valerie of Lubbock, Texas, Steven Zink and his wife Bethany of Fairfield, Ohio, and William "Bill" Zink and his wife Lisa of Jackson, Ohio. The legacy of love he leaves behind is further carried on by fifteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, each of whom he cherished deeply. Of great importance as well was his niece, Teresa Profitt of Cincinnati, Ohio, whom he loved as his very own.
Huie's homegoing is marked by the absence of those who preceded him, including his beloved parents, Herman and Viola (Wise) Profitt, his first wife Deloris (Taylor) Profitt, his second wife Marilyn (Dillard) Profitt, his son Gary, and his brothers and sisters—Elbert, Frank, William, Walter, Lenox, Margaret Mary, Vina Truie, Jane, Maggie May, Ila,Ruby, Betty Ellen, Mary Jo, and Effie—all cherished components of a life beautifully lived.
The celebration of Huie’s remarkable life will be held at The Calvary Church, located at 11970 Kenn Road, Cincinnati, OH, on October 26, 2024. Family and friends are welcome to gather at 3:00 PM, to honor a man whose spirit resonated with grace and love within the hearts of so many.
