Ian Murdock McKinley departed this life on January 5, 2025 at the age of 79. Born on May 1, 1945, in Drogheda, Ireland, Ian grew up in a nurturing environment that laid the foundation for a life dedicated to family, faith, and service to his community.
Ian graduated from Trinity College in Dublin, where he studied mechanical engineering. He devoted 36 of his professional years to Michelin Tire Co, where he took tremendous pride and enjoyment in his work.
A devoted member of Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Mauldin, Ian's unwavering faith guided him throughout his life. For 49 years, he faithfully and joyfully served as an elder, deacon, trustee, and on many committeess. His contributions to the Men's Bible Study and Sunday School were a testament to his desire to serve and uplift others within his community. His example of love, honor, and compassion was a beacon of joy and light in this world.
Ian's family was the ultimate light of his life. Some of his greatest family memories were visiting his native Ireland and dearly loved Irish family, hiking the Mountains of Mourne, sailing in Carlingford Lough, and enjoying a pint of Guinness. A lover of nature, camping, beach, and ski trips with family and friends were among the cherished memories.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 54 years, Judy McKinley; daughters, Janet Roe and Jennifer Thomas; son, Rob McKinley (Molly Roberts); and grandchildren, Alexandria Bell, River McKinley, Skylar Roberts, and Phoenix Roberts. His amazing legacy is a portrait his family will cherish for years to come.
Ian was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Marjorie McKinley; and sister, Gillian Gibbons.
A visitation will be held Sunday, January 12, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church in Mauldin, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m., celebrating the extraordinary life of a remarkable man.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Grace Covenant Presbyterian Church (739 N Main St, Mauldin, SC 29662) as a reflection of Ian's enduring commitment to his faith community.

We first met Ian and Judy in Clermont when he hired in to Michelin. We essentially went through boot camp together.
I miss the great times we had there, and will miss him.
