J. Jerome "Jerry" Amend

AMEND, J. JEROME "JERRY," of New Albany, IN, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2024, after a hard fought battle with brain cancer. He grew up in Amarillo, TX and attended Amarillo College. His education continued at the University of Houston (B.A. Music) and the University of Louisville (Master of Music). Jerry was a member of the Louisville Orchestra from 1972 – 2018, principal trumpet for 23 years. Since 1988, he was Music Director of the Commonwealth Brass Band – an English-style brass band that he co-founded. Jerry also taught trumpet at the University of Louisville and IU Southeast for many years as well as at Mel Owen Music and his home studio. Additionally, he was a trumpet soloist with the 564th USAF Tactical Air Command Band (Langley AFB, 1968-72). He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, New Albany, IN.
Jerry was pre-deceased by John J. Amend, Sr., Jeanne Parr Amend, and Barbara Towne Amend. Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife, Jackie Novotny Amend; beloved son, Jack Amend; brother, Jayme Amend (Cher); sisters, Judy Morrissey (Rick) and Jodette Fox (Rex); sisters-in-law, Cindy Schneringer (Joe) and Debbie Cahill (Brian). He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Deborah Cecil; father-in-law, Dennis Novotny (Connie Sue), and a host of wonderful nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Pearson's, 149 Breckenridge Ln. Louisville, KY.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, September 13, 2024 at Pearson's.
