Jack Keller Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Dr. Jack (John) Keller passed away on October 16, 2025 in Cold Spring, Kentucky. He was born in Cold Spring, Kentucky on October 21, 1930 to Frances (Steffen) and Aloysius Keller. Jack resided in Pensacola, Florida for many years but it was his fervent desire to return to Kentucky and his family prior to his passing. This wish was fulfilled.
Jack was educated at Covington Latin School, Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio, St. Paul Seminary, St. Paul Minnesota, Loyola University, Chicago, Illinois.
Dr. Keller was blessed with key persons in his life. His mother, Frances, insisted that he study hard; his father, Aloysius, emphasized the value of working hard; Monsignor Frank Meliech encouraged him to enter the seminary and subsequently serve 15 years as a catholic priest; and Dr. Frank Kobler who acted as his mentor at Loyola University in Chicago. Dr. Keller treasured his time at Villa Madonna College and the University of West Florida where he taught for 43 years in the psychology program.
Dr. Keller saw his first client in 1958 and worked as a therapist until age 90. Jack referred to being a therapist as his retirement. Jack lived an active life well into his 90's. He played golf, horseshoes, swam and worked out in the gym on a regular basis. He was known, admired and loved by all who knew him. When he walked into the Lifestyle Center at Portofino, the complex where he lived, Jack was immediately surrounded by residents, guests and staff alike. It would be safe to say, Jack never met a stranger. Jack enjoyed watching golf and other sports on television but his first love was Notre Dame Football. He would rarely, if ever, be seen wearing something other than a Notre Dame shirt and or cap.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Aloysius Keller, his son Patrick Burton, his niece Becky Wiley, and his nephews Roger Keller, Sr., Al Keller III, Michael Neltner, and Matt Neltner. Left to cherish Jack's memory are his wife, Lynn Kelly, daughter, Robin (Dave) Keeler, sister, Ruth Neltner, stepchildren, Kimberly Convery, Brian and Shawn Kelly, grandchildren, Madison Micheli, Kyle Burton, step-grandchildren Michael, Thomas, Patrick, and Elizabeth, and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at St. Joseph Church, 4011 Alexandria Pike, Cold Spring, KY 41076 from 10:30 am to 11:30 am with Mass of Christian Burial beginning at 11:30 am. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery, Cold Spring.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Michael C. Neltner Scholarship Fund at Bishop Brossart High School or Roger F.
