Jack Safford, age 84, peacefully passed away on May 20, 2025, surrounded by his family, just one day shy of his 85th birthday. He was the beloved husband of the late Bettie J. (Sites) Safford. Born in Providence on May 21st, 1940, Jack was a son of the late Martha (Engwall)Brown. His life was one filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories.
He was the devoted father of Jack K. Safford and his wife Esterina, Theresa Safford D'Orsi and her husband, Bob, and the late Jim Safford and Bob Safford; cherished grandfather of Tyler, Derek, Nick, Jared, and Conner Safford, and Christofer D'Orsi; father-in-law of Karla Andrews. Jack was the brother of Martha Black and the late Betty Torcq, Frances Carson, Charles Safford and Ruth Safford.
Jack was a simple man who found happiness in life's quiet pleasures: casting a fishing line on a calm afternoon, enjoying a cold Miller High Life, and spending time with those he loved most – his family. He took immense pride in his children and grandchildren, always lighting up when speaking of them. Being a grandfather was one of his greatest joys, and he wore that title with honor.
At just 18 years old, Jack married Bettie, the love of his life, who was 15 at the time. Their 62- year marriage was built on love, laughter, and a steadfast partnership, a bond that remained strong until Bettie's passing three years ago. Their love story was one for the ages.
Jack spent much of his career at General Dynamics Electric Boat. After retirement, he couldn't stay idle and returned to work as a painter, applying the same craftsmanship and heart to his second career.
Jack and Bettie shared a love of antiques and weekend yard sales, not merely as collectors, but as treasure hunters drawn to the beauty and history of old things. Jack also had a lifelong passion for music. Affectionately known as "Country Jack" and "Elvis," he had a voice and presence that could light up any room. Through his songs, he shared stories, united friends and brought cheers from all who loved him. In recent years, Jack became a beloved regular at the Tri-City Elks Lodge #14 on karaoke nights. He looked forward to them each week, often spending days preparing and practicing his songs.
Jack lived a life full of love, laughter, music, and meaning. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in every country song he sang and every shared memory.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, May 31 from 11am-1pm with a Memorial Service at 1pm in the Thomas & Walter Quinn Funeral Home, 2435 Warwick Ave., Warwick. He will be privately laid to rest alongside his beloved wife Bettie in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your favorite charity in Jack's memory.
