Jacob John Metzger IV

Jacob John Metzger IV, 85, of Canton, Georgia, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2025 at his residence.
Jacob was born January 1, 1940 at Mark Green Hospital in Vandalia, Illinois; son of the late Jacob John Metzger III and Lora Isabel Adams Metzger. He graduated with honors from Vandalia High School. He was a member of the Thespian Club and an exceptional baseball player. His love for the sport carried over to his college years. Jacob graduated from Greenville College in 1961 and was awarded class honors at commencement exercises for his work in the field of Business Administration. Jacob was also awarded the Wall Street Journal Student Achievement Award given only to the top 10 business minds in America and was given a silver medal at the time. He was president of the Business Forum, a campus club for business majors. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from St Louis University in 1974 with MBA in Finance with honors.
After college he did accounting and was controller at Syntex Chemical Corporation which is now known as Roche Pharmaceuticals. He was an antique collector and collector of Civil War and World War II memorabilia. He loved the outdoors and became an expert at horticulture. He managed a 144 year old family farm of 120 acres in Fayette County, Illinois. Jacob was very loved and admired by his family and will be deeply missed.
He is preceded in death by his second wife, Eleanor Kay Burch Metzger; parents Jacob John Metzger III and Lora Isabel Adams Metzger; infant granddaughter, Jennifer Gayle Clifft.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Probus Metzger; children, Jay Metzger, Pamela Baginski (Ted), Kathy Clifft (Mark), Jill Merrill, Kari Lena (David), Angela Meyer (Sean), and Tim Swarts; grandchildren, Anthony Lena, Andrew Lena, Thaddius J Baginski III, Clarissa Baginski, Jackie Cooper (Nate), Cohen Merrill, Holly Camacaro (Rodrigo); great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Jonas, Simon, Joel, Claire, Jane, Gabriel, Lillian; a host of other family and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 14, 2025 at 2:00 pm in the Sosebee Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve DuVall officiating. Interment will follow in Cherokee Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, March 14, 2025 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Sosebee Funeral Home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Swarts, Ted Baginski, Jay Metzger, David Lena, Cohen Merrill and Sean Meyer.
