Jacob O'Neil Wrobel, age 27, was born on August 31, 1997, in Royal Oak, Michigan to Joe and Julie Wrobel.
Jacob began his education at Pembroke Elementary School in Troy and later attended Derby Middle School in Birmingham, where he played basketball and football. He was active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He went on to play varsity football at Seaholm High School and was also a member of the marching band, playing the cornet. Jacob appreciated history, particularly military history, and was rooted in the service of his grandparents and great-grandparents in WWI and WWII. He earned an associate degree from Oakland Community College and took history courses at Oakland University. He also worked at Too-Ra-Loo in Rochester for about five years as a pizza chef.
Jacob loved camping with his grandpa and cousins. He also enjoyed fishing, including ice fishing. He also loved travel and family adventures, especially trips to Disney World, the Smoky Mountains, Dollywood, and Cheboygan.
He loved basketball-both watching and playing it-and was a devoted Detroit Pistons fan. He attended many games and even won a free throw shooting contest at The Palace of Auburn Hills, a memory he cherished. Whether playing pick-up games with friends or simply shooting around, the court was one of Jacob's happiest places.
Jacob is survived by his loving parents, Joe and Julie Wrobel; his brother Joshua Wrobel; aunts and uncles, Sue (Mark) Markaity, Patrice (Bill) Moesta, Dean (Porsha) O'Neil, Kellie (Pam) O'Neil, and James (Kris) Wrobel; and many cousins.
Jacob is preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph and Lorraine Wrobel and George and Elsie O'Neil.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Jacob's honor to the National Alliance on Mental Illness online at www.NAMI.org or to the family.
A Celebration of Jacob's life will occur at a later date.
"Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!" – William Shakespeare (Hamlet)
