Jacqueline Green Downs

Jacqueline Green Downs, age 92, died on November 11, 2024 in Conway, Arkansas. She was born on October 13, 1932 in Lexington, TN, the daughter of James Hubert Green and Exie Estelle Johnson Green. She was predeceased by her husband, Bobby Neil Downs and son, Timothy Wayne Downs. 

She was a graduate of Little Rock Senior High (1959) and attended Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA). She was a registered nurse having graduated from Arkansas Baptist Hospital School of Nursing. She then attended Baylor University in Waco, TX. She ha a BS degree in education, and an MS in Early Childhood Education from Henderson State University in Arkadelphia, AR. She worked alternately as an RN and elementary school teacher, depending on their location. 

Jackie and Bobby were married October 15, 1955 at Second Baptist Church in Little Rock. Bobby retired from the Arkansas Louisiana Gas Company after 30 years and they moved to Arkadelphia near Gurdon where their children grew up. 

Thy traveled often across the United States and abroad. They especially enjoyed travelling to many other locations where their families had ancestors to “look up. They always took a daily log of things they saw and did on on their trips. 

After Bobby passed away in 2012, Jackie sold their home and moved to Conway where her daughter, Diane and her husband Chris lived. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she was a part of the Dottie Robins-Lite Sunday School Class. They were members of several state, county and community organizations in all of he locations where they had lived. Genealogical organizations were Magna Charta Dames and Barons, Jamestown Society, DAR, SAR, Colonial Dames of America, Sons and Daughters of the Pilgrims, Robert Bruce Society and a few others. 

She is survived by her daughter, Diane Downs Newton (Christopher), of Conway; Grandchildren, Stephanie Downs Pipkin (Glen) of Camden, Crystal Downs Loffeimacker of Omaha, NE, Luke Downs (Ashley) of Oklahoma, Robert Newman (Natalie) of Savannah/Dallas, Texas, Kyle Newton (Tiffany) of Magnolia, AR and Jaylee Marshall ; great grandchildren , Kallie Pipkin, Melanie Pipkin, Timothy James Downs, Addison Grace Downs, Titus Downs, Anthony Downs, Haley Newton, Nicholas Newton, Jackson Newton, Sophia Newton, McKayla Newton and Connor Newton.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at Ruggles Wilcox Chapel in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. Visitation will precede services beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow the service at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens.
