Jacqueline Assunta Melchiorre, 97, of Berwick, died Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at Embassy of East Mountain Nursing Home, Wilkes-Barre.
Born September 20, 1928 in Berwick, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Teresa (Massimo) Lovecchio.
A graduate of Berwick High School, she went on to beauty school in Hazleton. In her early years, she was employed as a beautician in Philadelphia and Bloomsburg, and then worked for Eudora Corset in Berwick until its closing.
A devout Catholic, Mrs. Melchiorre was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Berwick. She served on the Ladies Council, the Altar and Rosary Society, was a member of the Blue Army, and staunchly supported the Pro-Life cause. She also volunteered at Holy Family School library.
Jacqueline enjoyed cooking and crafting. Above all, she loved spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 34 years, Lawrence M. Melchiorre, Sr., who died in March, 1987; her son, Anthony C. Melchiorre; and six siblings: Regina Manco, Emilio Lovecchio, Rose DiPippa, Mary Norce, Angelo Lovecchio, and Lorraine Lovecchio.
Surviving are four children: Lawrence M. Melchiorre, Jr. and his husband, James Howley, of Wilkes-Barre, Mary Lou Melchiorre and her husband, John Bowman, of York, PA, Michael C. Melchiorre and his wife, Susan, of Berwick, and Christopher Melchiorre and his companion, Deirdra Perry, of Berwick; nine grandchildren: Amy Melchiorre, Anthony Melchiorre, Jr., Ashley Melchiorre, Lorenzo Melchiorre, Gabriella Melchiorre, Rocco Melchiorre, Nicholas Melchiorre, Antonia Melchiorre, and Michael Melchiorre, Jr.; and five great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Friday, December 12, 2025 from 9:30 A.M. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 A.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 721 Monroe Street, Berwick, with Rev. William T. Barbee, her pastor, officiating as Celebrant.
Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Berwick.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to: St. Joseph Catholic Church at the above address, the Alzheimer's Association, or the Embassy of East Mountain Memory Care Unit, 101 East Mountain Blvd, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
The family would like to thank our friends for their kind thoughts, well wishes, and prayers for our mother and grandmother, and a special thank you to all of the staff at Embassy of East Mountain and the caregivers at the memory care unit.
