James Edward Ballor Jr., known affectionately as Jim to all who loved him, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025, at MediLodge of Midland following a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 17, 1945, in Bay City, Michigan, to James and Marie (Brancheau) Ballor Sr., He touched the lives of many throughout his 79 years.
Jim married the love of his life, Noreen (Knochel), and they built a life together. He was a devoted father to his two sons, James E. III and Scott A. Ballor, who were his pride and joy. Jim's love and guidance also extended to his stepchildren, Heather (Al) Pung and Daniel (Stephanie) Bryce. His role as a grandfather was one he cherished deeply, and he leaves behind a legacy of love with his seven grandchildren: Tori and Casey Ballor; Albie, Andrew, Anthony, and Mia Pung; and Autumn Bryce.
Jim is survived by his siblings, Suzanne (Larry) Murtha, and their children Lisa, Cindy, Jamie (Tom), and Larry (Amy); Richard (Jeanne) Ballor, and his children Rick, Brent, and Christopher; and Barbara Powell (Peter Olsen), and her sons, Kadin and MacKewin, as well as many great-nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents and a sister Mary Lou.
After graduating from Pinconning High School, Jim furthered his education at Delta College, where he earned an Associate's Degree. His career at Midland Dow Chemical spanned 33 years, during which he briefly lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he earned an outstanding salesman award. Upon retiring, Jim returned to Linwood. Two years prior to his passing, Jim and Noreen moved to Midland, Michigan, to begin a new chapter.
He enjoyed golfing, and his home was a hub of hospitality. Friends were often drawn to the "Ballor's Bar on the Bay," where Jim guaranteed a good time with a fridge always stocked with Stroh's beer and Coca-Cola, a plentiful array of snacks, and the promise of hearty laughter.
Per Jim's wishes cremation has taken place. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Rivertown Funeral Chapel. Inurnment will take place at a later date at St. Anne's Cemetery. The family would like to extend a heartfelt Thank You to MediLodge of Midland and Heartland Hospice for the compassionate care given to Jim and his family.

On behalf of the LaPorte cousins, we wish the Ballor family our deepest condolences. Jim made a point to check in on our mother, Jim´s aunt Peg, when he may not have felt well himself. We were always happy to see Jim´s mom and dad when we visited Linwood and it seems Jim was also a great host to friends and family. May all those who loved Jim find peace and remember the good times with him.
