James Earl Bienvenu Sr.

James Earl Bienvenu, Sr. passed away peacefully in his home on Saturday, February 22, 2025 leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter and deep appreciation for simple joys of life. "Jimmy" was a lifelong resident of the area and cherished the Louisiana culture and cuisine with a passion for the outdoors including camping, fishing, hunting and boating. He graduated from Archbishop Rummel High School in 1975. Shortly after graduation he began working at the New Orleans Cold Storage where he became the Chief Engineer for over 30 years. Here he had the privilege of working with his father as well as the opportunity of making lifelong friends. He then retired from this career and decided to pursue what he loved, which was cooking. He became the catering manager for Hudson Services Inc. and was able to cook his way into everyone's hearts through his jambalaya and so much more. He was also a beloved member of Alcoholics Anonymous for the past 18 years. Through Alcoholics Anonymous he made friends who became family and found a faith as he trusted in God giving him love and hope. He survived by his daughter, Yvette Bienvenu Lionnet (Jeff), and his son James Bienvenu, Jr. (Stephanie), 6 grandchildren: William, Jude, and Mya Lionnet and Gabrielle, Genevieve, and Remy Bienvenu all of whom he adored. He also left behind his former wife, Kelley Bruhn Bienvenu who he loved and cherished along with a host of other family and friends that he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Yvonne and Earl Bienvenu, his sisters, Lynne Bienvenu Greco and Joan Bienvenu and brother Warren Bienvenu. He was a devoted father and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:18. Relatives are invited to attend Catholic Mass on Friday, February 28, 2025 at Garden of Memories Funeral Home, 4900 Airline Hwy, Metairie, LA 70001 for 2 PM. Visitation begins at 12 noon. Interment will be private.
