JAMES PAUL BROWN
AUGUST 26, 1947 - JANUARY 14, 2025
James (Jim) Paul Brown was born August 26, 1947 in Oklahoma City, OK. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his children and friends, on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 in Edmond, OK. Jim was preceded in death by wife, Carol Jean (Campbell) Brown, his parents, Frank Nathan Brown and Irene Elizabeth (Lodes) Brown and his brothers Charles Brown and Frank Brown. He is survived by his children, Tamara Webb of Edmond, OK, and Jeff Brown and wife Desiree of Edmond, OK, step-children Damon Richmond and his wife Christie of Yukon, OK, and Kim Richmond and her partner Michael of Yukon, OK, sisters Betty Pequano of Kingston, OK, Mary Green and her husband Harold Taylor of Kingston, OK, and brother Don Brown and his wife Beverly of Fort Worth, TX. At the time of his death, Jim had 12 Grandchildren, Lauren McPherson of Edmond, OK, Chase McPherson of Austin, TX, Mica Blackwell of Navasotta, TX, Zachary Richmond of Yukon, OK, Christopher Ramsey, of Oklahoma City, OK, Kyla Richmond Peoples of Oklahoma City, OK, Caroline Richmond of Mustang, OK, Hope Richmond Lopez of Shamrock, TX, Jacob Santos of Dallas, TX, Kenneth Richmond of Yukon, OK, Jacob Dare of Moore, OK and Xander McElhaney of Moore, OK. He had 6 great-children, Trigger Blackwell, Aubrey Richmond of Yukon OK, Austin Blackwell and S.J. Blackwell, Andrew Lopez and Steven Lopez of Shamrock, TX.
Jim graduated from Del City High School in 1965, then was inducted into the United States Army on September 21, 1966 where he spent two years in the Vietnam War as a Radio Teletype Operator. He was honorably discharged on September 19, 1968. He received his Bachelor's degree in Business from Central State University on the G.I. Bill after his enlistment.
In 1969, he married Judy Kemp with whom he had 2 children, Tamara and Jeff. After their divorce, he met and married the love of his life, Carol Jean Campbell on November 27, 1987. Jim and Carol both worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and both retired in 2000 after full careers. Jim and Carol loved to travel. Some of their favorite trips were to Alaska, Hawaii, and Cozumel. They had a love and appreciation for classic cars and were once members of CC Riders out of Oklahoma City. Jim owned some beautiful classic cars, like his 1965 Ford Mustang and his 1955 Bel Air.
Jim and Carol loved the lake and cherished many years living by Lake Texoma, where they developed many friendships and great memories. Jim was also a volunteer firefighter with the Lake Texoma Fire Department. Additionally, they enjoyed time in residence in Dallas, TX, New Orleans, LA, Sherman, TX, and most recently in Oklahoma City, OK. Jim loved music. He had a vast collection of records, tapes, and CDs and could tell you who was the artist of a song and the year it came out when it played on the radio. He enjoyed dancing with Carol or just sitting on the patio listening to 60s and 70s rock and roll or county music.
Jim loved to laugh. He enjoyed watching comedy movies and comedy television shows. He also loved animals. He had pets over the years, most recently Kalli, their cat, and Gizmo, their Lhasa Apso dog. In recent years, Jim lived at the Veraden in Edmond, OK to be closer to his children. He made lots of friends and was visited often by his two favorite dogs, Roxie and Martha Pearl. He spent much of his time watching the Dallas Cowboys and University of Oklahoma Sooners play football. He will be remembered any time the defense misses a tackle with the words, "Get him!" ringing in the air. His memory will forever be tied to Washita Point at Lake Texoma, where he drove his golf cart and sat at the beach or on those cool mornings sipping coffee at 6:00am on the back patio while listening to some Oldies music. Jim will be missed, but we know he is at peace now with his Darlin', Carol.
Jim was a devoted member of the Catholic faith and attended Mass at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Norman. The family takes comfort in the belief that they will be reunited with Jim in the eternal Kingdom.
Please join us in celebrating the life of Jim at 2:00pm, Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Resthaven Funeral Home, 500 SW 104th St, OKC, OK 73139.
