James M. Cappiello, a beloved member of the Plymouth community and formerly of Brockton, passed away peacefully on August 31st at B.I.D. Hospital in Plymouth. He was born on May 16, 1942, in Brockton, Massachusetts, to the late Vincenzo and Rosa (Pellegrini) Cappiello.
Jim was a proud graduate of Brockton High School and continued his education at UMass Amherst, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Accounting. His commitment to service led him to enlist in the U.S. Air Force, where he served in Thailand during the Vietnam Conflict from 1965 to 1968.
Throughout his career, Jim dedicated himself to the field of accounting, working for UMass College and the Veterans Affairs office before spending his later years at T.S.A., where he continued to make a positive impact until his retirement. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Jim had a deep passion for music, skiing and photography. He was also the family historian, capturing cherished moments on film for future generations to enjoy.
Travel was a significant part of Jim's life, and he relished the many trips he took to Italy and the Caribbean, where he created lasting memories with family and friends. An avid runner, he participated in numerous marathons, including the Boston Marathon, continuing to run well into his sixties. However, one of his greatest joys was the time spent with his family, who were the heart of his life.
Jim is survived by his sister, Phyllis Liuzzi of Rockland; his nephews, Vincent Liuzzi, Stephen Liuzzi, and Michael Liuzzi and his wife, Valerie, all of Plymouth; and his great-nieces and nephews, Emma Liuzzi Spickerman of Summerville, S.C., Noah Liuzzi of Plymouth, Michael Liuzzi of Plymouth, Margaux Sideropoulos of South Boston, and Jillian Liuzzi of Plymouth.
Visiting hours will be held at the Cartmell-Davis Life Celebration Funeral Home, located at 619 State Rd., Plymouth (Manomet), on Tuesday, September 9th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 10th, at 10:00 AM at St. Bonaventure's Church, 803 State Rd., Manomet. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
In honoring Jim's memory, the family invites those who knew him to reflect on the joy he brought to their lives and to carry forward his spirit of love, music, and adventure.
