James DeFranco, 69, of Lake Summerset in Davis Il, died Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
Born June 18, 1955 in Chicago, IL, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Frances (Mirro) DeFranco. He graduated from Steinmetz High School in Chicago in 1974. On June 18, 1988 James married Vickie Herrmann in Freeport, IL. He worked at and retired from ComEd.
Jim enjoyed fishing where he had a talent of catching muskies and playing bocce ball at Lake Summerset. He also enjoyed gathering at the Mobil gas station by the lake with the guys, solving the world's problems one day at a time and sharing stories. Jim was a huge history buff, which attributed to his love of traveling. Vickie and Jim loved to travel. They took cruises to Alaska, Italy, Hawaii and up the east coast into Canada to view the fall colors. Jim took pride in his collector Mustang, loving to drive around. He was an avid coin collector along with his wife. His joy of life and infectious laughter will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include wife, Vickie DeFranco; sister Terri (Richard Toole) DeFranco of Cincinnati OH; brothers-in-law Wyatt Herrmann of Orangeville, IL and Gregg (Pamela) Herrmann of Wautoma, WI, sister-in-law Ginger Holbert of Freeport IL; further survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ralph DeFranco, father-in-law and mother-in-law Wayne & Arline Herrmann, and brother-in-law Thomas Holbert.
Funeral Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 14, 2024 at St. Mary Catholic Church, 606 W. Main Street, Durand, IL. Burial to be in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Durand, IL. A visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024 at McCorkle Funeral Home - Durand Chapel, 101 W. Main Street, Durand, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to St. Mary Catholic Church, 606 W. Main Street, Durand, IL.
Immediately following the graveside ceremony all are invited to for fellowship at Cimino's with the family.

Dear Vickie and family,
So sorry to hear of Jimmy's passing. Our families were so close and we grew up like cousins. It saddens me he went too soon, but happy to know he traveled and got to see a lot of the world he wanted to.
