It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard Arnold Anderson, affectionately known as Dick or Rich, on March 2, 2025. Born on February 25, 1935, in Chicago, IL, Richard spent his life dedicated to the service and enrichment of others. As a primary teacher at Lively Junior High School, Elk Grove Village, IL, until his retirement in 1995, his compassionate nature and supportive demeanor left an indelible mark on countless young lives. Richard's dedication was not confined to his profession, as he was, above all, a devoted family man.
Richard was a thoughtful soul with a zest for life that was infectious. He was an active member of his community, particularly the Lake Summerset Fishing Club, continuously sharing his love for fishing with others. He was also known for his love of golfing, entertaining, and music, his house being the hub of many memorable gatherings. Richard's dedication extended to the basketball court where he coached the Junior High School team, instilling values of teamwork and resilience in his students.
Richard will be dearly missed by his sons, David (Diane) Anderson and Steve (Jodi) Anderson; his grandchildren, Eric, Jenny, Alyse Sandow (Louie), Alaria Petrulis (Nick), and Alek; and his great-grandchildren, Kynzlee, Millie, and Emelina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Ruth Anderson; his beloved wife, Helen Anderson; his brother, George Anderson; and his significant other, Betty McCollum. Beyond his immediate family, Richard's loss will be deeply felt by the numerous lives he touched with his kindness and generosity.
A memorial ceremony will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 22, 2025 in Durand United Methodist Church with Pastor Brenda Morris officiating. Cremation Rite will be Accorded. A memorial visitation will be held at the Church from 12:00 p.m. until time of ceremony, Saturday.
We invite all who knew Richard to share their memories and upload photos to his memorial page. In the words of one of Richard's favorite songs, "Life is not the breaths you take, but the moments that take your breath away." Let's remember Richard in those breath-taking moments of joy, laughter, and love that he gifted us.

My dad, Dean Armstrong, and Dave were both teacher friends in Elk Grove and they both retired to Lake Summerset in 1995. They remained friends until my dads death in 2013. My mom and Betty were also friends until moms death in 2007. Dave was my sister Elaine Armstrong´s teacher at Lively School. Rest in peace Mr Anderson. I´ll let my sister know you have passed on. I was a student of Mr. Anderson's math class and graduated from from Livley Jr high in 1982. I have nothing but very fond memories of my time in his class and at Livley. RIP Mr Anderson, you made such a huge impression on so many students through the years. We were lucky to have had you as our teacher. You gave me a great foundation in math.

I still remember Mr. Anderson´s kindness to me when I was in Lively Jr. High. I was shy and didn´t have a lot of confidence but I still remember that he believed in me and that was in the early 1970s. He made a difference to many students.
