Funeral services for Mr. James Charles "Charlie Pop" Diamond, age 56, of Piedmont, will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at Thankful Baptist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Pleasant Gap Cemetery.
Mr. Diamond, was born on July 6, 1966, and passed away on October 3, 2022.
Survivors include his children: Spencer Dudley, Dominque Dudley, Akeem Dudley, Breanna Brazier, and Charlee Diamond; grandchildren, Ciara Barrick, Laniya Dudley, Taylyn Dudley, Kaden Dudley, Akeyla Dudley, Aniyah Dudley, and Akeem Dudley II; sister, Donna Garrett (Frank) Jones; brothers: Thomas Lamar Garrett and Marcus Garret; and his aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and a vast amount of cousins and friends. Over the years that he spent on this side of glory, he made special relationships with Norman Huey, Charles Huey, Thomas Huey, Ray McDonald, Bobby Whorton, Bobby Davis, Clifford Mosley, and two devoted aunts: Ms. Belinda Sue Jackson and Mrs. Margaret Keller who loved Charles for being Charles and helped to take care of Charlee when necessary.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents: Mr. William Warren and Mrs. Christine Cobb Diamond; and Mr. S.M. Perry and Mrs. Eunice Perry; and his parents: Mother, Connice Diamond Jenkins; Stepfather, Thomas Garrett.
Charles attended Thankful Baptist Church and graduated from Piedmont High School in 1985. Charles was employed at Springs Industries in Piedmont, AL for several years until it closed. Following his employment at Springs, Charles began working with his childhood friends Charles and Norman Huey in the concrete business. He was self-taught in the mastery of finishing concrete. He prided himself in his work and never minded sharing a conversation about the jobs that he had completed. Charles also enjoyed seeing a building project from start to finish on his property. However, although he loved all of his children, he found the most joy in life caring for his girls: Breanna and Charlee. Those two girls were truly the "apples of his eyes." Charles and Spencer also shared a special relationship as they lived so closely. Charles built many meaningful relationships through his charismatic personality; he always had a story to tell or a joking comment.
Pallbearers and Flower Bearers will be cousins and friends.
