James D. Donohue, 80, of Ellington, loving husband of the late Mary (Lucey) Donohue, passed away peacefully, with his family at his side, on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. Jim was born on November 30, 1944, in New York, NY, one of two children of the late James D. Donohue Sr. and Dorothy M. Donohue.
He was a graduate of LaSalle Institute in Troy, New York and went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Siena College in Loudonville, NY. Jim enlisted in the US Army and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, having earned the rank of First Lieutenant. In 1970, Jim was awarded the distinguished Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces.
Jim was employed as an auditor for over 40 years with Aetna Life & Casualty and later with Travelers Life insurance Company until his retirement in 2019. Along with raising his family, he enjoyed traveling around the globe with his beloved, Mary. Some of their trips included Ireland, Rome, and Paris, as well as family trips to Disney World. Jim was always busy attending his grandchildren's school and sporting events which he enjoyed thoroughly. He was an avid follower and supporter of UConn Women's & Men's Basketball teams.
Jim is survived by his two children and their families, his son, Brian Donohue and his spouse Lauren of South Windsor, and his daughter, Megan Glunt, her spouse Matthew, and their two children, Elise and Elliott Glunt also of South Windsor. He also leaves his brother, Kevin Donohue of Troy, NY.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be in the Ellington Center Cemetery, 95 Maple St. Ellington, CT 06029 on Monday, November 24, 2025, at 11:00 am. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association Connecticut Chapter at www.alz.org or to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.PanCAN (Pancreatic Cancer Action Network).org Ladd-Turkington & Carmon Funeral Home in Vernon has care of the arrangements.
