James Graham Haffter

James Graham Haffter of Riverside, California, went home to be with the Lord after 86 years of life, love, and plenty of laughter. Born August 16, 1938, in Tucson, Arizona, Jim lived every year with a twinkle in his eye and a joke at the ready.

He graduated from Poly High School Riverside in 1957 and attended Riverside City College before beginning a long career in the printing industry. Jim worked at the University of California, Riverside, and later spent more than 26 years with the Department of the Navy. Along the way, he became known not just for his work ethic, but also for his quick wit and stories that could keep a break room laughing long after the coffee ran out.

Jim was never one to sit still when it came to helping others. He volunteered with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, Hope Lutheran Church, and the Riverside County Sheriff's Office, Citizens on Patrol group, among many other causes. Whether teaching young scouts, lending a hand at church, or supporting law enforcement, Jim brought humor and kindness wherever he went-often at the same time.

Above all, Jim was a family man. He shared 60 years of marriage with his wife, Carol, who managed to laugh at his jokes longer than anyone else. He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Dave and AnaMaree, Andy and Lia; and grandchildren Jaren, Luke, Abbey, Jason, and Alexa-each of whom inherited at least a little of his mischievous grin.

Jim's humor, generosity, and devotion will be remembered always. In true "Cracker" fashion, he would probably say not to make too much of a fuss-but he'd secretly love the fact that you're reading about him right now.

A celebration of life will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Riverside at a time and date TBD. In lieu of flowers, please tell a joke, laugh loudly, or help someone in need-Jim would consider that the perfect tribute.
