His Celebration of Life will be held at 160 Logan Blvd S., Naples, Florida 34119 on June 16, 2025, from 3pm to 6pm to honor this wonderful man who lived a very fulfilled life.
James Calvin Herrington II was born in Clarksburg, WV on October 4, 1948, to James Calvin Herrington I and Ava Marie Phillips. He attended Bridgeport High School with honors and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from West Virginia University. With tenacity and dedication, James achieved a distinguished 43-year career as Director of Operations and Maintenance in both surface and underground coal mining. James held multiple Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) licenses and took great pride ensuring the safety and success of his team and companies.
James was an avid horticulturist who tended delicately to his beloved plants including his vast garden of vibrant orchids. He enjoyed sharing his in-depth knowledge of all beautiful things in nature with his family. From the oceans of Florida, to mountains of Washington state and Colorado to the rolling hills of West Virgina and Tennessee.
James is survived by his eternal soul mate, Reba Jean Riffe Herrington, wife of 52 years and their daughters. Jamie Herrington McFarland, husband Patrick McFarland and children Olivia and Brody. Twin daughters: Bethany Herrington, husband Timothy Christopherson and children Ionie, Banyan and Rook. Amy Herrington, husband Tate Hermann and children Elleigh, Maeve, Presley and Tyler. James is also survived by his brother, Phillip Herrington and his daughters, Faye Torstenson and Carrie Toal. He is preceded in death by his father, James Calvin Herrington I and mother, Ava Marie Phillips.
In lieu of flowers to honor James' generous spirit and lifelong commitment to the beauty of nature, the family asks donations be made in dedication for a future plaque at his favorite garden. Donations can be sent to:

With respect and wonderment, James journeyed through the world carving an authentic path for all to follow with his intellect, strength, integrity and clever humor, while sowing everlasting seeds for all to cultivate. Those beautiful blue eyes will continue to light our skies above and live in our hearts for eternity.
