It is with much love and admiration that we announce the passing of James O. Johnson, who peacefully passed into the arms of his Lord and daughter, Debra Campbell, on Friday August 8, in Midwest City.

James was born to parents Leon and Lucille Johnson on October 30, 1940, in Ada, Oklahoma. He graduated from Del City High in 1958, where he played football and baseball. He completed his bachelor's degree at Central State College in Edmond and his master's at Central State University.

James married Ruth Dowlearn and loved every year of 60. Together they raised four children, Don, Susan, Debbie, and Jamie.

James began his coaching career in Chickasaw, Oklahoma in 1965. He moved to Midwest City in 1966 and began a very successful and rewarding 55 years at Monroney Jr. High and Carl Albert High School. At the height of his career at Monroney he received the Golden Football for 100 victories as head coach.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debra, mother, father and four siblings. James is survived by his loving wife, Ruth, son, Don and daughters, Susan and Jamie. Also, by one grandson, Carter and granddaughters, Lynse, Hayle, Mayce, Kennedy, Kamryn and Morgan. Along with 6 great grandchildren.

Friends and loved ones and the many players he influenced may pay their respects at Barnes-Friederich & Pope on August 13, from 12pm – 8pm. Family will welcome friends from 5pm – 8pm. A funeral ceremony will be held at Meadowood Baptist Church on August 15, at 2:00pm. James will be laid to rest in Arlington Memory Gardens.
