James E. “Jim” Leuenhagen, age 79, of Sergeant Bluff, IA, passed away on Thursday, October 31, 2024. A Memorial Mass will be 10:00 A.M. Monday, November 4, 2024 at Nativity Catholic Church. Visitation will be 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Meyer Brothers Morningside Chapel with Rosary and Vigil beginning at 5:00 P.M.

Jim was born on October 16, 1945, in Sioux City, IA, to August and Mary (Kersting) Leuenhagen. A 1964 graduate of Sergeant Bluff High School, Jim married the love of his life, Suzette Hoffman, on June 26, 1965, in Akron, IA. Together, their life journey took them across the Midwest, living in Atlantic, IA, Strasburg, CO, Lincoln, NE, and finally back to the Siouxland area.

Jim was a devoted family man, his number one priority always being his loved ones. His family remembers him as their superfan and hero, never missing a game or event for his beloved grandchildren. They were the pride and joy of his life, and his love, support and presence will be deeply missed.

In addition to his dedication to his family, Jim treasured time with his wife, Sue, and his friends. He had a passion for playing cards, square dancing, puzzles, bowling, hunting, and boating. His competitive spirit shone in his younger years as a motocross champion. Jim also generously gave back to his community as a proud ten-gallon blood donor.

Jim was a devoted member of Nativity Catholic Church, where he served actively in the Knights of Columbus, served in the Men’s Group and was a player on the church’s softball team. His faith and commitment to service were constant sources of strength for him and those who knew him.

Jim is survived by his wife, Sue Leuenhagen; children, Cindy (Dale) Deist, Tom (Heather) Leuenhagen, and Sandy (Wayne) Harvey; siblings, Carlene Clark, Bill Leuenhagen, Randy (Mary Jo) Leuenhagen, and Susan (Ivan) Roost; grandchildren, Alan, Amanda, Cody, Wade, Casey, Kayla, and Chloe; and great grandchildren, Brody, Haleigh, and Emmett.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Mary Ann, Jackie, and Ginger; and brother-in-law, Dick.

His presence, humor, and love will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
