A funeral service for Jim will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 1st, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church in Algona. Burial will be held in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Friday and continue until the time of service at the church.
James Dale Lindhorst was born December 24, 1933 in Titonka, the son of Rufus and Myrtle (Bell) Lindhorst. He attended Cresco Township School and then attended Algona High School where he graduated in 1952. Jim was a member of the Irvington Presbyterian Church in his younger years.
Jim was drafted in the United States Navy in March of 1956 and was honorably discharged in November of 1957.
On January 19, 1958, Jim was united in marriage to Janice Bjustrom at Good Hope Methodist Church in Lone Rock. They lived on family farms north of Algona until moving into town in 2000. Together they were blessed with two children, Rhonda and Tim. Jim and Jan shared countless moments on the dance floor. Among the cherished memories was the night they attended the last performance of Buddy Holly.
Jim's life has been devoted to agriculture. His lifelong journey in agriculture started following the Navy. His unwavering commitment to farming shaped not just his livelihood but also left a lasting impact on those around him. Jim's passion for farming extended beyond his own endeavors. He generously shared the love of land with his son. For a quarter of a century, Jim cultivated not just sweet corn but a tradition of generosity. His dedication to growing sweet corn was surpassed only by his commitment to community, as he selflessly donated his harvest to the First United Methodist Church's pork chop supper.
Jim was a passionate soul who found joy in the simplicity of life. His love for farming old machinery, capturing moments through photography, casting lines in serene waters, and sharing laughter over a game of pool will forever be cherished by those who knew him. Jim was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Algona. A past member of the Union Township where he served as a trustee for many years.
Jim died Thursday, November 23, 2023 at Good Samaritan Society – Algona. He was 89.
He is survived by his wife, Janice of Algona; children, Rhonda (Rod) Rork of Humboldt, Tim (Kristi) Lindhorst of Burt; one granddaughter, Afton of Burt; sister-in-law, Jeanette (Stanley) Ozimek of Venice, FL; close friend, Randy Crouse of Humboldt; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents; siblings, Margaret Winifred (Elmer "Jum") Ewoldt, Mansiel "Bill" (Gena) Lindhorst, Kenneth (Betty) Dean Lindhorst, Myrtle Maxine (Francis) Platt, and Vida May (Oscar) Roth.
