Janice Irene Lindhorst was born February 7, 1936, in Algona; the daughter of Quinton and Jessie Irene (Mitchell) Bjustrom. Following high school, she worked for a clothing store and Security State Bank as a teller for a short time.
On January 19, 1958, Jan was united in marriage to James Lindhorst at Good Hope Methodist Church in Lone Rock. They lived on family farms north of Algona until moving into town in 2000. Together they were blessed with two children, Rhonda and Tim. Jan and Jim shared countless moments on the dance floor. Among the cherished memories was the night they attended the last performance of Buddy Holly. Jan and Jim were MYF Counselors at both Good Hope Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church.
Jan's life was rooted in the values of hard work, community, and faith. As a farmer's wife and housewife, she dedicated herself to caring for her family and her home. She had a passion for decorating, crafts, and gardening, and her cooking was the heart of many family gatherings. Jan took great joy in attending family events and was always eager to lend a helping hand or a kind word.
Jan was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities; including United Methodist Women and Friendship Circle, a dedicated member of the adult choir and helped direct youth choir, and loved helping decorate the church for all occasions. Her service to the church and community reflected her deep faith and commitment to others. Jan was also a proud member of the Four Corners - Mothers and Daughters Club until it closed.
Jan died Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Good Samaritan Society – Algona. She was 89.
She is survived by her children, Rhonda (Rod) Rork of Humboldt, Tim (Kristi) Lindhorst of Burt; one granddaughter, Afton of Burt; sister, Jeanette (Stanley) Ozimek of Venice, FL; close friend, Randy Crouse of Humboldt; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Jim on November 23, 2023; and siblings-in-law, Margaret Winifred (Elmer "Jum") Ewoldt, Mansiel "Bill" (Gena) Lindhorst, Kenneth (Betty) Dean Lindhorst, Myrtle Maxine (Francis) Platt, and Vida May (Oscar) Roth.
