James Lewis Mosley, of Fort Madison, Iowa, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2024.
He was born January 26, 1930 in Mobile, Alabama to Levi and Bessie Mosley. Jim was the oldest of 10 children and grew up in Stapleton and Dawes, Alabama. He had an amazing memory and often regaled his family with detailed stories of his youth, many of which he memorialized in a book he published in 2023. He and his first wife, Geraldine, had five children, and he acquired six stepchildren through his second marriage to Catherine Sanft, to whom he was married for 42 years.
He is survived by his children Shelley Dean Mosley-Curtis and Edward Mosley (Diane) and stepchildren Jeanne Jackson-Heim (Wayne), Suzanne Rohloff (Mark), Glen Sanft (Mary), Teresa Sanft Nelson, Timothy F. Sanft, and Daniel Sanft (Teresa), along with his sisters Elizabeth Street (Buddy), Mildred Merrihew, Dorothy Comstock, Shirley Merrihew (Larry), brothers Leon Mosley (Martha) and David Mosley, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife Catherine and his children Bonnie Sue Marko, Ted Mosley, and James Steven Mosley, sister Louise Mosley, and brothers Edward (Junior) Mosley and Charles Mosley.
Jim made his profession of faith in Christ Jesus on June 2, 1979, and his faith never wavered despite a terminal cancer diagnosis in October 2023.
The family wishes to acknowledge the staff of Lee County Hospice and Birkwood Village Nursing Home for their assistance, loving care, and compassion over the last weeks and months.
Funeral services will be at the DL Newcomer Funeral Home, 1105 E. 9th Avenue in Brodhead, WI on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at 11:00 AM. A visitation will also be held at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. James will be buried by his wife at the Greenwood Cemetery in Brodhead.
