He was born on August 26, 1931, in Wheeling, WV, son of the late James C. Peyton, Sr. and Mildred Karges Peyton.
James was in the U.S. Corps of Engineers and retired as an Engineer for Belmont Petroleum.
He played football for WVU as an offensive guard and was drafted by the Greenbay Packers but chose Engineering over playing for the Greenbay Packers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Diane McIntosh Peyton; son, Douglas Peyton; and brother, Ed Peyton.
James is survived by his daughter, Julia (John Basil) Yeater of Wheeling, WV; son, James F. Peyton of Chicago, IL; two grandchildren, Billy (Chelsea) Yeater of St. Clairsville, OH, and Alexis (Brad McCardle) Yeater; five great-grandchildren, Ellie, Liam, Pierce, Bradley, Jr., and Aspen; sister-in-law, Jewel Peyton; and one niece and one nephew.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
