James Graham Roe, Sr., beloved husband of the late Charlotte M. Roe, passed away on October 22, 2025, at the age of 98 in
Greenville, SC, at Rolling Green Village.
Born on July 23, 1927, in Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of the late Herman Clyde Roe and Anna Graham Roe.
Jim served in the US Marine Corps during World War II, and later in the US Army Reserves. He graduated from the College of Charleston and later became district marketing manager for BellSouth. He served as president of the Pleasantburg Rotary and was a member of several civic and professional associations. Throughout his lifetime, Jim was deeply involved in his church community, as both he and Charlotte were founding members of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. He was a long-time member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society and served as a Eucharistic minister. A portion of his retirement was spent in Florida where he was also involved in prison ministry outreach as well as a volunteer at the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute.
Jim was happily married to the love of his life, Charlotte M. Roe, for 73 years, and together they raised a beautiful family. He is survived by his children James G. Roe, Jr. (Nancy), Regina Lyon (Robert), and C. Clyde Roe (Lisa); seven adored grandchildren, Jennifer Roe Stewart (Jason), James G. Roe, III, Katherine Roe Gary (Coleman), Austin Roe (Jacquelyn), Mary Catherine Kunitzer (Ryan), Tyler Lyon (Samantha), and Jacob Hutchins Roe; and seven loving great-grandchildren, Ethan and Ella Lyon, Marcello and McKenzie Parente, Jaxon Stewart, Molly Grace Kunitzer, and Cole Gary.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Charlotte, and his siblings, Mary Elizabeth Quarterman, Robert K. Roe, and Herman Clyde "Buddy" Roe, Jr.
A graveside service will take place on Thursday, October 30, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
