James Thomas Smithson, son of the late Thomas and Mary Agnes Smithson, was born on September 9, 1929, in Mecklenburg County, Virginia. He went to his eternal resting place on Friday, October 13, 2023.
James was raised in Chase City, Virginia, where he developed a love for many hobbies. As he grew into manhood, he drove the school bus while earning his education in the Mecklenburg County public schools. He would later serve in the United States Army.James would then serve on the Chase City Police Department. For over 40 years with the Huss Trucking Firm, he drove tractor trailer trucks by the name of "Deputy Dog" alongside his brother. After his retirement from the trucking business, his passion for driving continued as he drove charter buses. He loved spending hours fishing from his boat or from the side of the pond.
