James Solem Obituary

James was born on June 28, 1947, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of George A. and Clara Jean (Hartgrave) Solem. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Jim cared for his family deeply. He enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Jim never needed a watch; he went by mealtimes. The family extends their gratitude to staff at the Iowa Veterans Home for their outstanding care of Jim.
Survivors include his brother, Robert (Marcia) Solem of Phoenix, AZ; sisters, Marie (Dick) Mara of Deltona, FL and Linda Prior of Cedar Rapids; nephew, Steve Turner of Cedar Rapids; great nieces Amanda, Arianna, and Ashleigh; and several other nieces; nephews; great nieces; and great nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; sisters, Judith Turner and Georgene (Gary) Squires; and brother-in-law, Jeff Prior.
Memorials may be directed to the Iowa Veterans Home.
