James Stickler Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Peterson & Patch Funeral Home on Sep. 11, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

In the early hours of September 10, 2025, James "Jim" Stickler passed away peacefully at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, IL. Jim was 72 years old.

Jim was born in Waukegan, IL to Robert and Evelyne Stickler on October 26, 1952 and was raised in North Chicago, IL. He was incredibly skilled and forever willing to share his talents – plumbing and carpentry. After graduating from North Chicago Community High School, he started his career with Builders Plumbing Supply. Afterwards he dedicated many years to North Shore Sanitary District, followed by various carpentry pursuits. Undoubtedly his greatest joy was fulfilled working as a custodian at St. Patrick School in Wadsworth, IL, retiring in June 2020.

As hardworking as Jim was, he was an expert at living life to the absolute fullest. He loved vacationing in Turks and Caicos, relaxing while fishing, playing slots at the casino, and scratching lottery tickets. However, his favorite hobby was bragging about his eight grandchildren and the tight-knit family he created with his wife.

Jim is survived by his wife, Christine, daughters, Jennifer (Chris) Van Skyock, Jessica (Jason) Grooms, Julie (Jay) Ways, eight grandchildren – Alexia Van Skyock, Lillian Van Skyock, Chloe Van Skyock, Allie Curry, Luke Curry, Ella Curry, Brayden Ways and Ryder Ways. He is also survived by his siblings, Robert Stickler Jr., Michael Stickler, Lawrence (Therese) Stickler, Sally Myers, and several nieces and nephews. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Evelyne.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 15,, 2025 from 5-8PM at Peterson & Patch Funeral Home, 408 N. Sheridan Rd, Waukegan, IL 60085. Services will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 15000 W. Wadsworth Rd., Wadsworth, IL 60083 on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 with visitation starting at 9AM, followed by a funeral mass at 10AM. Interment to follow at Ascension Cemetery, 1920 Buckley Rd., Libertyville, IL 60048.
