James Edward Thone passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones, at his residence on January 8, 2025, at the age of 92. He was born on April 22, 1932, in Ladd, Illinois, to Edith Lund and Isac "Ike" Thone.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Evelyn Stehl (Don) and Wilma Slater (Jerry), brothers Ron Thone and Terry Thone (Cathy), daughter-in-law Lorena Thone and his parents.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his children James Thone of Gautier, MS, Gary Thone (Donna) of Biloxi, MS, Debbie Geroux (Kerry) of Hattiesburg, MS, and Kenny Thone (Larry Federico) of Metairie, LA., sister Janice Swietek (John) of LaSalle, Il, brother Jerry Thone (Janet) of Lathrop, CA, and sister-in-law Barb Thone of Ozarks, MO. He was also a proud grandfather and great-grandfather to many and to his nieces and nephews.
James started as a farmer in Illinois before joining the United States Air Force in 1955 and retiring after 20 years of service. After his retirement, he worked as an inspector in a shipyard at Ingalls in Pascagoula, MS, and then as a nuclear power plant inspector at Stone & Webster Engineering in Saint Francisville, LA. He had a brief stint in advertising with Buddy's Advertising in Baton Rouge, LA. James ended his career as a truck driver from 1987 to 1991. In his spare time during retirement, he was the entertainment director at Federico's Florist in Metairie, LA.
In his younger years, he loved square dancing, and later in life, he worked on small engines, woodcraft, making lamps, and fishing; he absolutely loved anything with electronics. He never missed a Saturday night with Lawrence Welk Show and The Hee Haw Show. He was an avid Saints and LSU fan.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and nurses at Touro Infirmary Hospital, Passages Hospice Care, and everyone who visited, called, texted, emailed, prayed, and sent cards.
