James "Jim" Albert Watson, a resident of Washington, left us peacefully in the early hours of March 18, 2023 and entered joyfully into the presence of his Heavenly Father. He was 78 years old.
Jim was born on April 14, 1944 in Detroit and soon after was adopted by his caring parents, Robert and Doris (nee Brady) Watson. Jim spent his early childhood in Detroit before his family settled in Birmingham, where he attended and graduated from Groves High School in 1962.
Jim went on to obtain his Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design from the Center for Creative Studies and then served two years in the Army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. After the military, he made a successful career as an engineer for Chrysler up until his retirement. Jim had many creative interests and seemed to excel at all of them. He loved all types of cars but was especially fond of street rods. He spent many hours in his barn on his car hobby as well as making beautiful wood projects for family and friends. He also was a talented artist. He loved creating fabulous sets for the children's musical productions at Faith Church in Rochester where he was a faithful member for 34 years.
Jim loved his Lord Jesus Christ and enjoyed digging deep into the Word in independent reading and in study with dear friends in Community Bible Study. He especially loved his Archeology Bible that had information and photos of digs in the areas of Bible history that support so many Biblical references. Jim and Nancy spent 17 winters in Naples, Florida where they made precious, life long friends at Centerpoint Community Church of Naples and in their Deauville Community.
Jim and Nancy celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in November of 2022. Unfortunately he was in the hospital at that time but it did not stop a meaningful celebration. Jim was very proud of his two sons and he adored his two granddaughters. The girls were the absolute delight of his life and he devoted many many hours to them as they grew up.
Jim will be dearly missed by his wife, Nancy (nee Fuson) Watson; sons, Derek (Jessica) Watson and Bryan Watson; and granddaughters, Sofia and Anna Watson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Doris Watson.
Visitation for Jim will be held from 3:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, March 24, 2023 at Gramer Funeral Home Diener Chapel, 48271 Van Dyke Ave. (btw. 21 & 22 Mile.), Shelby Twp., MI 48317; (586) 731-4150. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM, instate at 9:00 AM, on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at Faith Presbyterian Church, 160 W. Hamlin Rd, Rochester Hills, MI 48307; (248) 651-3535.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make contributions may do so to Jim's beloved church, Faith Presbyterian Church or to the Tumaini Fund www.tumainifundusa.org, a charity he loved that supports widows and orphaned children in Kagera, Tanzania.
