James F. "Jim" Williamson passed away suddenly on Saturday, November 1, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Judge George F. and Ruth (Payton) Williamson. Jim was 81.
Jim attended both Oldham County High School and Kentucky Military Institute, graduating from K.M.I in 1962 and becoming a member of the Army Reserves. He earned a Bachelor's degree from Western Kentucky University. He attended the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law, graduating with his J.D. in 1970. He practiced law from 1970-2025. For many years, he served Oldham County with his devoted partners through the law practice of Williamson, Simpson, Combs and Theiss.
Jim is survived by his wife, Gayle (Broyles) Williamson. He is also survived by his sons, Nathan (Carrie) and George "Bryan" (Chastity) and Aaron, as well as his grandchildren: Ben Williamson, Eisley Williamson, Seth Williamson, Angela Adams and his brother George F. Williamson, III (Rosemarie). Jim was also loved by his numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
As Jim neared retirement, he became engaged with W.A.G.S. and was trained, along with his dog Maple, to bring joy and comfort to others through pet therapy. Jim and Maple visited nursing homes, the James Graham Brown Cancer Center, hospitals, Gilda's Club and JCPS. He and Gayle were also active in the Tri-State Collie Rescue, transporting many dogs out of difficult situations and offering shelter and care until they could be placed with loving families.
Visitation will be held at Ratterman Brothers, East Louisville, 12900 Shelbyville Road on Friday, November 7 from 10:00am-12:00pm with service at 12:00pm. Immediately following the service, Jim will be laid to rest in Valley of Rest Cemetery in LaGrange, Kentucky.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to W.A.G.S. at kywags.org or Tri-State Collie Rescue, 106 Pebble Brook, Jeffersonville, IN. 47130.
