Jane Owens Slick, 90, of
Emmaus, PA, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on November 19, 2024.
Jane was born on September 21, 1934, in Carbondale, PA to Gwendolyn (Lewis) and Roland Owens. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul, with whom she shared 68 years of marriage.
As a young woman, Jane loved to play piano and also played the organ in their church. She was a cheerleader in her high school years. She met Paul when she was 15, and after sharing the piano bench with him in a school musical, their courtship began.
After eloping and living in Syracuse and Pittsburgh, where Paul attended school, Jane and Paul settled in Allentown to raise their family. Shortly thereafter, they joined the First Presbyterian Church of Allentown, of which Jane was a devoted member until the last few years of life.
Jane was the quintessential loving wife, mother and grandmother and was adored by all who knew her. She loved to cook, bake and entertain, and hosted many dinner parties for friends, as well as the weekly Sunday family dinners. Jane was an avid reader, swimmer, and watercolor painter- and loved gifting her paintings to friends and family. Music was a big part of her life. She was a very talented piano player, and loved to sing to family. She was active in the Women's Club of Allentown and also volunteered for many organizations, but most notably, the local library. In 1969, Jane and Paul built a cottage at Lake Hauto, where Jane loved to spend time with family and friends. She also loved the ski trips to NY, VT and Canada, and in the summer, the vacations to the Outer Banks. When her children were in their teenage years, Jane took a part time job as an office manager for a dental practice. Throughout life, Jane and Paul had a close-knit group of friends with whom they played bridge, attended dances and concerts and traveled the world. Jane's three sisters were a big part of her life, as well, and they often spent holidays and vacations together. One of Jane's favorite trips was to Wales with her mother, sisters and husbands. As grandchildren came into the world, Jane took an active role in their lives. They called her Nonnie, and she was the best Nonnie in the world! Whether it be swimming in their pool, making pancakes together or just being silly, she adored every moment with them. In her later years, she often recounted these many memories together.
Jane will always be remembered for her warm welcoming nature, her cheerful smile and spirit, and the joy she brought to all those around her! She will be dearly missed.
Surviving Jane are her three children: Michael of Tyler, TX; Matthew of
Emmaus, PA; and Nancy of Coopersburg, PA.
In addition to her husband, Paul, Jane was predeceased by her son, Andrew; sisters Nancy and Diane; and a brother, Jeffrey.
Jane leaves behind seven grandchildren, Derek, Rebecca, Travis, Cory, Tyler, Ajay and Drew; eleven great grandchildren; a sister, Susan; and many nieces and nephews.
