RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Janet E. Dunckel, age 91, passed away on Thursday morning May 11, 2023 in her home.
She was born on November 8, 1931 in Pittsfield a daughter of the late Harry E. and Dorothy VanWarner Chase. She was raised and educated in New Berlin graduating from New Berlin High School. She was a solderer with the Bendix Corporation in Sidney. On March 22, 1974 she married Eugene Dunckel in the Church of Christ Uniting in Richfield Springs a blessed union of thirty four years until his passing in 2008. In 1974 she and her family moved to Richfield Springs.
Janet was a volunteer for the American Cancer Society, she was a member of the American Legion Post #616 Auxiliary in Richfield Springs.. She loved being with her family especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a kind caring person who always was willing to help others, a friend to many and will never be forgotten.
Surviving her are four sons and their wives; Michael and Rahlene Welch of Fly Creek, Theodore and Darlene Welch of New Berlin, Terry Green of Marian, North Carolina, Thomas Welch of Zephyrhills, Florida, three daughters and their husbands; Pat and Timothy Winters of DeRuyter, Kimberly and Al Martin, Penny and Brad Tibbits all of Richfield Springs, a sister Joan Brunner of New Jersey, fifteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her husband Gene and her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers; Stewart Chase and David Diotte, a sister Ruth Schaffer and two daughters-in-law, Debbie Green and Janet Welch.
A celebration of life will be celebrated on May 28th from 1:00-4:00 pm in the Richfield Springs Vets Club, Lake Street, Richfield Springs. There will be no calling hours. Her final resting place will be Arlington National Cemetery with her husband Gene. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Richfield Springs American Legion, 13 Lake Street.
Funeral arrangements are with J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs.
