Janet Lou (Durkes) Lippold of Peru, Indiana, beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished community member, passed away at 10:12 pm on July 31, 2023. Born to Lewis and Louise (Ford) Durkes, Janet's remarkable life journey began on February 5, 1937. She formed a loving bond with Gene Weldon Lippold, whom she married on June 3, 1956.
A lifetime homemaker, Janet's passion extended beyond the boundaries of her own home. As a 4-H leader and member of the 4-H Governing Board, her nurturing spirit influenced many young lives. Janet's dedication to home economics earned her the honor of becoming the Indiana Extension Homemakers Association (IEHA) President from 1988-1989, a role that allowed her to contribute significantly throughout the state of Indiana and beyond. She later found joy working in the kitchen at North Miami High School for nearly 20 years.
Janet was predeceased by her parents, her brothers Craig and Robert Durkes, and her loving husband, Gene. She leaves behind a rich legacy in the form of her five children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Her survivors include Garry (Harriet) Lippold, Peru, IN; Rhonda (Mike) McLaughlin, Punta Gorda, FL, their children Luke McLaughlin (Ellen Osborne), Frankfort, IN and Chloe McLaughlin (fiancé Joshua Kantharia), Boston, MA; Sharon Lippold (Terry Bisgrove), Gold Beach, OR; Roger (Janet) Lippold, Warsaw, IN, and their sons Ryan (Kaitlyn) Lippold, Cresthill, IL, and Kyle (Emily, Eli, Evan) Lippold, Schneider, IN; and Rita Gallian (fiancé William Strong) and her children Anna and Avery Gallian, Mexico, IN.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 4, 2023, from 4 pm to 6 pm at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana. The funeral service will commence at 11 am on Saturday, August 5, 2023, preceded by a visitation hour starting at 10 am. Tim Deardorff will officiate, with prayers by George McCarty. Janet will be laid to rest next to her beloved Gene at Rankin Cemetery, Miami County Indiana.
