Caribou - Janet Mae Peterson, 71, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2025. She was a devoted follower of Christ who touched many lives with her kindness and hospitality. She placed all her hope of life hereafter in Jesus Christ, the Son of God. His death and resurrection gave her life meaning and made her death a peaceful passage to her eternal life in heaven. Janet wanted her family and friends to know, for her, to live was Christ and to die was gain.
Janet was born on September 7, 1953, in Sterling, CO. She was married for 47 years to the love of her life, Rolland Peterson. Janet worked as a bookkeeper for most of her life and retired from DFAS in 2016 after 11 years of service. She found great joy in working and raising her three boys with Rolland. Janet and Rolland were regular, active attenders of the Framework Church in Presque Isle, where they cherished their church family.
Janet will be remembered for her hospitality, always offering food and an open door to anyone. She always had a smile and was known for being a caring and thoughtful person. She was easy to talk to, always available to listen, firm in her beliefs, wise, and forthright.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Dorothy (Reyher) Barkey, her brother Dennis Barkey, and her brother-in-law Randy Green.
She is survived by her husband, Rolland; sons Ryan Peterson, Kurt and his wife Miranda Peterson, and Jared and his wife Bridget Peterson; brothers Roland and his wife Joyce Barkey, Gary and his wife Lori Barkey; sisters Carmen and her husband Bob Copley, Marlene Green, and Betty and her husband Paul Knott; sister-in-law Erin Barkey; grandchildren John, Riggs, Luca, and Rafe; she also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to both a time of visitation (10 AM-11 AM) followed by a memorial service (11AM) on Friday, April 25, 2025 at the Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover Street, Caribou. A committal service will take place at Evergreen Cemetery later this spring.
