Richard E. Belyea, 88, lifelong resident of Caribou died April 24, 2025 at Cary Medical Center after a brief illness. He was born March 5, 1937 in Caribou, the youngest son of Gordon and Adelaide (Sweeney) Belyea.
He graduated from Caribou High School in 1955 and worked on the family farm for a time, he also worked for Reynold's Machine Co. in Ft. Fairfield, as well as several years welding for Lane Construction Corp. In later years he owned and operated his own welding and metal fabrication shop. He became the go to guy for local farmers and contractors to fabricate or repair anything metal – he liked the challenge of the difficult repair jobs that no one else would tackle. He was a mechanical wizard who could visualize, design, fabricate and/or repair anything made of metal in his shop full of machine tools and specialized equipment, many he designed and built himself for specialized projects.
Richard was predeceased by five brothers: Kenneth, Donald, Roger, Earle, and Foye and four sisters: Emily, Ruth, Faye, and Lois. He will be sadly missed by his sister Jeanette, his nephews Ronald (Paula), David (Sheila), and Stephen (Joan) who were like brothers, as well as several nieces and nephews in other parts of the state and country.
A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday May 30, 2025 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Caribou. Arrangements in care of Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home 11 Clover Street Caribou, Maine 04736.
