Janet Subbert, age 88 of Lanesboro, IA, passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Stewart Memorial Community Hospital in Lake City, IA. Jan was born on August 4, 1936, to Milford and Edith (Piersol) Axe, joining her older brother Don and sister Jean in their family. Her early years were spent in Lincoln, NE before the family relocated to Omaha, NE. After graduating high school, Jan began working at the Omaha National Bank, where she met Dick. Initially, she played hard to get with his playful nature, but eventually, she succumbed to his charm, leading to their first date at Peony Park.
It became clear that Dick was her soulmate and they married on March 23, 1963. Together they welcomed three children: Chris, Kelly, and Kevin. In 1970, they pursued their dreams by moving to Lanesboro, IA, where they bought and operated Dick's Place. Jan also found a fulfilling job at McCary Rost Clinic, dedicating 26 years there before retiring.
Despite her busy schedule balancing work and the bar, she always made time for her children, supporting their interests wholeheartedly. A strong-willed woman, Jan remained resilient throughout her life. Her greatest joy came from watching her grandchildren grow into remarkable individuals and later cheering on her great-grandchildren at their sporting events. She took immense pride in being a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Chris (Erika) Subbert, Kelly (Brad) Addison, and Kevin (Michelle) Subbert; grandchildren: Corey (Abby) Bluml, Bailey (Ben) Schroeder, Samantha (Hunter) Houchens, Dylan (Cassidy) Addison, Trey Subbert, Mackenzie (Marvin) Brown, Hallie Subbert, Abigail Subbert, Courtnee Subbert, Kailyn Subbert, and Tylar Subbert; great-grandchildren: Brody Schroeder, Kayson Schroeder, Leo Bluml, Avery Schroeder, Bruce Bluml, and Myla Addison; several extended family members and friends.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband Dick Subbert; parents Milford and Edith Axe; in-laws Rudolf and Helen Subbert; siblings: Don (Yvonne) Axe, Jean (Bob) Kopke, and Susan (Roger) Gosch.
The Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, April 12, 2025, at the Lanesboro United Methodist Church in Lanesboro, IA. The Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2025, at the Lampe & Powers Funeral Home in Lake City, IA. The Burial will be in the Lanesboro Cemetery.
