Janice D'Agostino Olson, a charitable, selfless member of the Greenville community for over 40 years, lost her enduring battle with cancer on Sunday, The Lord's Day, September 22, 2024 at 1:26 p.m. surrounded by family.
Born in Stamford, Connecticut, Janice taught special needs children in Connecticut and then South Carolina, for over 50 years collectively. Teaching was her passion, purpose and commitment. Her uniquely creative, loving and gentle demeanor created a guided path to help improve her students' lives. She retired from teaching this past June.
Janice's impact on her community went well beyond the classroom. Her Catholic faith was intertwined with her life as a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, aunt and Godmother, as well as her many years of service with the Prince of Peace Catholic Church community by helping make and distribute over 4,000 sandwiches to those in need.
Never looking for recognition, one of her greatest joys was helping young Catholics along their journeys to First Holy Communion, Confirmation and other Religious Education goals. Nothing brought a smile and happy tears to her face more than bearing witness to their achievements.
Janice's joy of being with others included spending time with family by engaging in activities with her grandchildren, spending time at the pool and cookouts.
During her final days, with family by her side, Janice continued to pray the Rosary, a devotion passed on by her parents' shared commitment to the Catholic Faith.
Janice is survived by her husband of 46 years, Alan; her two children, Sara Wallace (Jay) and John Olson; granddaughters, Elizabeth and Gwendolyn; her mother, Toni D'Agostino; her sister, Denise Festa (Frank); several Godchildren; a niece; and five nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, John T. D'Agostino on June 14, 2016.
Prior to her passing, Janice traveled to Stamford, Connecticut in August for a family reunion, where she was able to spend time with her grandnephew.
Janice would have celebrated her 73rd birthday on October 25th.
The family appreciates everyone's prayers and support during this difficult time.
A Rosary is scheduled for at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown followed by a Vigil at 6:30 p.m. that will include an opportunity for friends and family to share memories of Janice. Visitation will follow the Vigil from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Due to inclement weather The Funeral Mass will be Celebrated at Prince of Peace Catholic Church (her parish home for over 30 years) at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024.
Family and friends who are unable to attend the services can view the Livestream by clicking on the "WATCH EVENT" button located in the Services section corresponding to each event.

When we were kids Janice would be the teacher since she was older than me and Denise. I remember she gave us a spelling bee and tried to trick us with very hard words which were actually very short, easy ones. Toni, Denise, and family - so sorry for your loss

It is with deep sadness that we write this message. Janice may not be walking beside us, but she will aways be in our hearts, minds, spirit and soul. She will be greatly missed. Love, Don and Barbara Olson
