Janice E. Steinkuhl, 89, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2025 at Aperion Care Lincoln. She was born March 9, 1936 in Evansville to the late Maxine (Henderson) and Ralph Kolb.
Jan graduated from Central High School in 1954 and also attended Lockyear College. She worked for Citizens National Bank, Vanderburgh County Mental Health Association and Allstate Insurance. Jan was a volunteer most of her life. As a young child, she and a friend collected from door to door for our servicemen during WWII wearing a Red Cross cape her grandmother styled and made for her. Later in life she volunteered at Little Sisters, St. Benedict's Church and School, and Reitz Memorial High School. Jan was Secretary/Bookkeeper and later Executive Director at MHA. She created the "Rappin' Program" and others while at MHA. Jan enjoyed ceramics, crocheting, embroidery and quilting and was a Social Quilter at St. Benedict's for the church socials.
Surviving Jan are her sons, Steve Steinkuhl (Lisa) of Cincinnati, Ohio and Kevin Steinkuhl (Lori) of Evansville; daughter-in-law, Laura Steinkuhl of Evansville; grandchildren, Amy Sexton (Phoebe) of Milford, Ohio, Max Steinkuhl of Muncie, Indiana, Lauren Steinkuhl of Los Angeles, California, Marie Steinkuhl of Cleveland, Ohio and Claire Steinkuhl of Charlestown, Indiana; great-grandchild, Conner Sexton of Milford, Ohio; sister, Michaelee Crawford of Evansville; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Clarence "Bud" Steinkuhl; son, David Steinkuhl; and companion of 24 years, Delmas Hayes.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 5, 2025 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville. Visitation will continue from 10:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2025 at St. Benedict Cathedral, 1328 Lincoln Ave., Evansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the church.
Burial will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Darmstadt.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Benedict Cathedral, 1328 Lincoln Ave., Evansville, IN 47714.
