Javier Garcia was born on June 19, 1949, in Villa Emiliano Zapata, Jalisco, Mexico, to Luis Garcia Gonzalez and Amalia Garcia Buenrostro. From an early age, he excelled in school—particularly in science and mathematics—while also working in the fields alongside his father and brother to help provide for his family.

At the age of 15, Javier moved to Guadalajara, where he worked at the Guadalajara Civil Hospital and sent money home to his parents and siblings. He enjoyed the mountain trails of Barranca de Oblatos, eating mangos and coconuts, listening to mariachi music, and practicing charrería (Mexican rodeo). During this time, he also discovered a lifelong love of boxing. He often visited the Mercado San Juan de Dios, a place he would later share with his children on yearly trips from the late 1980s through 2023.

In 1972, at the age of 22, Javier immigrated to the United States, first settling in Los Angeles, California, where he began his career in manufacturing—a field he remained in throughout his life. While in Los Angeles, he formed lasting bonds with his nieces and nephews, encouraging them through sports, movies, and jogs along the riverbeds to value education, hard work, and family.

In 1979, Javier moved to Chelsea, Iowa, where he worked for Manatts Construction. The following year, he married Sharon Barker, and in 1981 they welcomed their first child, Kimie Garcia, in Los Angeles. The family later returned to Iowa, where their children Silvia, Felipe, and Florita were born between 1982-1985 in Iowa City.

In 1992, Javier proudly became a U.S. citizen, fulfilling his vision of the American Dream. He went on to work faithfully at JBS for 34 years, where he held multiple positions and made many lifelong friendships.

Javier also deeply cherished the tradition of driving his children every summer from Iowa to Jalisco, Mexico, to visit his parents and extended family. He loved fishing, spending time at the lake, walking his dogs, and taking long walks at Sand Lake in Marshalltown with his close companion and former wife, Sharon. Above all, he treasured time with his family, which was the greatest joy of his life.

Javier is survived by his children: Kim Orozco of Marshalltown, Silvia Garcia of Marshalltown, Felipe Barker Garcia of Waukee, and Florita Garcia of Norwalk.

He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Belen, Andres, Nicolas, Payton, Kirsten, Elenna, Elynn, Jessiah, Joslyn, Talyn, and Bricel; great-grandchildren: Catalina and Lennon; and siblings: Jaime (Elena), Angelina (Fernando), Maria de Jesus, Rigoberto (Delfina), Luis Manuel, Bertha (Frank), Martha (Lino), Silvia, and many nieces and nephews.

He will be loved and remembered by his daughters Kim, Silvia, Florita, his son Felipe, his siblings, his grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, whom he inspired with his faith, education, work ethic, generosity, and devotion to family.

Javier was preceded in death by his parents, Luis and Amalia, his sister Petra, his niece Yolanda and her husband Mario, their daughter Jaquelin, and his nephew Louis Garcia.
